Busk Wood:
Busk Wood is a small secluded woodland in the Little Langdale valley. Hidden within the wood, sits a 100-year-old mystery, a WW1 memorial stone. The inscription reads “IN LOVING MEMORY DENTON LEE DIED OF WOUNDS 1914-1918” Who was Denton Lee? Why and who put the memorial there?
The passage of time, unfortunately, leaves much unanswered. Much has gone to the grave. What unravels from this mystery, however, is the story of a family bonded through love, tragedy and loss; in early 20th Century England.
I suppose the story starts where it ends: 20th October 1983 Moss Side Hospital, Manchester. After a fall at Tudor Manor Care Home, Blackpool: 90-year-old Kate Annie Lee succumbed to hypostatic pneumonia. Kate had never married and was the last surviving member of her family.
With her demise, all the stories of their lives went to the grave. That was until some were intrigued to uncover the mystery of the Busk Wood Memorial.
